Manchester Music Man Helps Students Follow Their D-Ream!

From working with iconic legends Status Quo and D-Ream to composing music for the Lowry Theatre, Mark Pilkington has done it all and will now be bringing something unique to Manchester’s Futureworks as he joins the teaching staff.

Mark’s experience firmly sets Futureworks’ music production courses apart from alternatives as he will allow students to experiment with audio and visual, compared with the standard teaching of producing music tracks found elsewhere.

Over the last decade Mark has led the way in combining audio with visual as he has composed music for the Lowry Theatre, produced an interactive installation at the CUBE gallery in Manchester and composed several pieces for a variety of Arts Council England events.

As a lecturer on the Music Production course at Futureworks, Mark will be teaching students the different skills and techniques required to produce sound to accompany visual projects, which can then be applied to a whole host of multimedia experiences, from sound installations for galleries and exhibitions to music to accompany theatre productions.

Commenting on his new role at Futureworks, Mark said: “I am extremely excited about joining the team at Futureworks, there is something very rewarding about passing on your skills and knowledge to help someone else produce new sounds and compositions that will shape the future of the industry.”

Chris Harper, senior manager at Futureworks added: “Mark is a valuable addition to the audio department at Futureworks, his knowledge and experience in his field is unrivalled and it is fantastic for the students to be able to learn about such an interesting area of audio production.”
