Futureworks joins forces with Emergent
Futureworks school of media in Manchester has joined up with software developer, Emergent Game Technologies, to enable its games students to use the Middleware engine Gamebryo® Lightspeed™ as part of their studies.
Futureworks will become an academic partner of Emergent and will be the only private education institution in the UK authorised to utilise its Gamebryo engine as part of the curriculum across its game development courses.
Gamebryo® Lightspeed™ is a full-featured game engine and is the only professional technology available for start-to-finish multi-genre and multi-platform game development. It enables rapid prototyping, rapid iteration and real-time updates and has been used on over 300 titles.
Futureworks students of both the Games Design degree and the Game Development diploma will now be making use of Gamebryo in order to work together to create games as an integral part of their course. The Futureworks games courses have been uniquely designed to enable students from each of the different games disciplines to collaborate throughout their studies and this software will help them to do so.
Ben Norris from Futureworks commented: “This partnership with Emergent is the latest achievement in our ongoing ambitions to strengthen links with industry for the benefit of our students. Utilising cutting-edge software like Gamebryo will enable them to gain the skills and experience needed for a successful career in the games industry and will ensure we are helping to cultivate a workforce with the expertise the UK needs to remain competitive.”
