Comma Films and Futureworks Students have successful Cornerhouse Screening

The long hours and hard work have paid off - and IMDB credits aside, the experience gained from the four short film productions has Futureworks' students inspired and buzzing. The Cornerhouse in Manchester hosted the sold-out premiere on 14th November and the response was excellent.

"The contacts we've gained have been invaluable. It was also a great way to tie the departments together." (Martin Solomenson, Futureworks Audio Engineering & Production student) Students worked on multi-day location shoots with industry veterans and completed a total of four films which were specially commissioned for the Versions festival:

Witness Protection
Dir: Sarah Eyre
Based on a short by new writer Guy Ware

Letters Home
Dir: Ron Wright
Based on a story by Martyn Bedford

The Sorting Out
Dir: Gwendolen Osmond
Based on a story by Christopher Priest

Finding Polish
Dir: Caleb Shaffer
Based on a story by M. Y. Alam

Futureworks' TV & Film students took on roles such as 1st and 2nd assistant camera, assistant director, lighting assistant, and overall production assitants. They also worked as editors, assistant editors, and colourists. Our Audio students took care of location/production audio - and all things post (dialogue editing, ADR, score, re-recording mixing, post supervision).

Dave Clissold and Martin Solomenson, 2nd year students on the Audio Engineering & Production course, have secured several film projects for 2010 as a direct result of the Futureworks / Comma films collaboration. "It was a great opportunity to focus on the exact roles in post production that we'd like to pursue." (Dave Clissold, Futureworks Audio Engineering & Production student). Together the have now started a production company that will provide production sound and dialogue editing services.

These types of collaborations will continue at Futureworks so that our students can continue to gain real world industry experience whilst on the course.
