BBC Drama use Futureworks studios for 'Choir Project'
The BBC were in the Futureworks studios this week, recording elements for their
forthcoming
'Choir Project' production. Tutor Rob Magoolagan and student Enos DesJardins recorded the session in the Neve
Studio.
The choir, led by Musical Director Chris O'Hara, recorded music for the show prior to full production.
They were joined on the day by key members of the production team, including writer and Executive Producer
Debbie Horsfield (Cutting It), Producer Richard Burrell (Robin Hood, Filth) and Music Supervisor Colin Hanson-Orr.
Kath Ashworth, Choir Coordinator, said of the session: "It went exceptionally well. We recorded guide
tracks for the cast to mime to during filming, as well as tracks that will be enhanced in post-production
and used in the finished production."
"Futureworks was the right choice for the sessions. The studio is excellent - the most suitable we've visited
in Manchester, and the engineers and technicians are extremely professional. They made the whole process as
easy as it could be. The facility is versatile, well located in the city-centre and the excellent lounge area
is a big plus."
Rob Magoolagan, Head of Audio here at Futureworks, engineered the session. Said Rob: "Over the past 18
years I've recorded all sorts of genres in studios of all shapes, sizes and quality. Recording a project
like this is always good fun. Its challenging, good experience for the students and a great work-out for the studio".
The 'Choir Project' is the working title for a new drama series for BBC One, set to air in January next year. The
series follow's the triumphs and failures of two choirs with very different agendas, against a backdrop of soaring
choruses, uplifting arias and infectious melodies.
